- If you print my cover in 4-color process, which 4 colors
do I get?
4 color process printing blends the 4 primary colors (cyan,
magenta, yellow, black) together to create virtually every
color in the rainbow. This is how you get full color printing.
Because our presses are always set up for 4-color process
printing, it is actually less expensive for us to give you
full color inserts than 2 or 3 spot colors on their own.
- If I want to supply my own artwork, what do I need
to know?
There are several details that you need to know when supplying
your own artwork. The MUSIC MANUFACTURING SERVICES design
department will provide you with all the information required
at no charge. See our design templates or call
us.
- If MUSIC MANUFACTURING SERVICES designs my project,
do I get to see the artwork before it goes to print?
Absolutely! At MUSIC MANUFACTURING SERVICES you can be as
involved in the creative end of things as you like. We can
design it for you, or put it together based on your creative
input. All artwork can be proofed in full color prior to
printing to ensure that you are 100% satisfied with what
you are getting before we print it.
- Do I need a barcode (UPC code) and where can I get
one?
If you want to sell your product in stores you definitely
need a barcode. MUSIC MANUFACTURING SERVICES can generate
barcodes for you. If you need a UPC number, MMS can provide
one for just $9.99 (US and CDN), and will generate the correct
barcode for your artwork. If you wish to register for your
own barcode (for customers will multiple releases) just
call: USA 1-800-543-8137 (or 513-435-3870) CANADA 1-800-695-7722
(or 416-510-8039) for an information kit.
- Do I need a catalogue (reference) number?
The music industry at large tracks every release by catalogue
number rather than title. This catalogue number is an alphanumeric
identification number for your release. Having a catalogue
number on your release helps retailers to keep an accurate
inventory of your stock and it helps us in manufacturing
to trace your parts (masters, film & print) at our plants.
If you supply your own artwork or film, remember to include
a catalogue number. If you do not specify your own catalogue
number, MUSIC MANUFACTURING SERVICES will assign one for
you.
- What if I want to put a cover song on my record?
If you want to record someone else's copyrighted composition(s),
you must get a mechanical license in writing. A mechanical
license cannot be denied, however, you are required to pay
a mechanical royalty based on the quantity you are duplicating.

else will be able to record your songs without your permission.

in your name: First, for information and necessary forms

- Why should my master tape be properly edited and equalized?
Not all audio masters require postproduction. At MUSIC MANUFACTURING
SERVICES if you are happy with the master you provide, it
becomes the production master from which your duplication
is done. A properly edited master will ensure that your
finished product is error free. If you are unsure if your
master is at it's best, just ask for our engineers to listen
to it and see if you could benefit from our mastering services.
The estimate is free, all you have to do is ask.
- Why do you ship plus or minus 10% on my orders?
Throughout our manufacturing process, there are several
stages of quality control. We usually print extra, knowing
that at various stages, some may fail to meet our strict
quality standards. For this reason, the ultimate shipping
quantity cannot always be determined ahead of time. Rest
assured, you will only pay for the number of units that
we actually deliver.
