VINYL MASTERING SPECIFICATIONS
Playing time
Following are the playing times for 12" records and different speeds:
| Size & speed |
Recommended maximum playing time* |
| 12" records @ 33.3 rpm |
18 minutes/side |
*Please note, high volumes, or excessive bass, will result in a deeper and wider groove, reducing the amount of playing time per side.
Master Tape Format
As with CDs, the quality of the source master determines the quality of the finished product.
MUSIC MANUFACTURING SERVICES can accept your audio master in many
digital formats. Click on a format below for complete specifications.

Lacquers & Metal Parts
Lacquers can be cut by MUSIC MANUFACTURING SERVICES or supplied by you.
We can make the metal parts for you, or you can supply them yourself as long as they're compatible with The Vinyl Factory's presses.
Note: Each vinyl stamper is only good for about 1000-1500
records. If the order is for 500 records we do one-step metal processing,
where we get a stamper right from the lacquer. Since the lacquer is
usually only good for one stamper, we will do 2- or 3-step metal processing
for larger orders. In this case, a mould (or mother) is made from
which future stampers can be made.
Track Sheet
Your master must be accompanied by a detailed track sheet including the artist name, name of album, track names, timings, and International Standard Recording Codes (ISRC codes), where applicable.
If this seems overwhelming, or you need help, please contact
your customer service representative so we can help you sort it out.
